Mary Ann is a self-taught artist who grew up in south Alabama. Her work has been described as folk, contemporary, and expressionist. Painting is at the heart of their practice, which also includes mixed media, assemblage, and writing. Working primarily in acrylics, she paints intuitively, beginning with small sketches or working directly on canvas.
Her days often begin early with meditation, journaling, and a thoughtful critique of the previous day’s work. Her subjects draw her into different worlds, whether the stories behind them are familiar or unknown. This curiosity shapes an intuitive approach to making art, and she especially enjoys hearing the interpretations viewers bring to her work.
